If you have a wide, open layer of fill or road base that has to reach density before the next layer goes on, this is the machine. A 25-ton single drum roller is the standard size for platforms, access roads and embankments on Johor sites, and it comes with our own operator.

A single drum vibratory roller has one heavy steel drum in front that vibrates as it rolls, and rubber tyres at the back that drive it. Many sites call it a road roller or vibro roller. Ours is what most sites call a 25-ton roller: about 25 tonnes of compaction force at high amplitude, on a 2.13 m smooth drum. The machine itself weighs about 10.4 t, which is the number that matters for transport and access.

Will It Fit Your Site?
At 2.26 m across, the roller works inside a single road lane, so it can compact one lane of a road upgrade while the other stays open. Anything narrower than about 2.5 m, such as a trench, is not a roller job.

Be Realistic
Where a 25-Ton Roller Is the Wrong Machine
A roller does one job, and it only does it well on the right material and the right width. Three cases where you should book something else:
Narrow trench backfill
The drum is 2.13 m wide and the machine is over 2.2 m across. Backfill in a trench or around a manhole narrower than that is a plate compactor or rammer job, not a roller job.
Wet, sticky clay
A smooth drum works best on sand, gravel, laterite, crusher run and road base. On wet clay it tends to seal the surface instead of compacting the layer. Let the material dry back, or talk to us before you book.
Finished asphalt
This is a soil and base-course roller. The asphalt wearing course is normally finished with a tandem roller by the paving contractor.
The honest rule: book the roller when you have a wide, open layer of granular fill or road base to bring up to density. Tell us the material, the layer thickness and the width of the area, and we will tell you straight whether this is the right machine, including when it is not.
