Binaindah Makmur (M) Sdn Bhd holds a JKR road upgrading contract running towards Pekan Layang-Layang in Kluang. Green City Machinery supplied the backhoe loader working that job.
Road rehabilitation is a different discipline from site earthwork. The road stays open. Work happens in short lengths beside moving traffic, gets made safe before the crew leaves, and picks up again the next shift a little further along. Roadside drains, culvert ends, shoulder repairs and service diversions all sit within a metre or two of live carriageway.
A backhoe suits that better than a tracked machine: it drives itself between working lengths at road speed instead of needing a low loader for every move, it works from the shoulder, and it digs one end while loading and backfilling with the other.

The Challenge
On a road upgrading contract the road never closes. Every working length has to be opened, worked and made safe within a shift, alongside moving traffic and inside a traffic management plan. Plant that needs a transporter to move a few hundred metres, or that needs a running lane closed just to swing, costs the programme more than it earns.
The Result
A single self-transporting machine covering roadside excavation, drainage and backfill along a live public road, section by section.
